So . . . welcome to the very first newsletter heralding in the dawn! A lot has just taken place in the Order and there is a new Council of Lyceum that was voted into place . . . be prepared to vote more often!
Due to my hasty decisions I feel as if the prior Council was not functioning as efficiently as it could be. The same goes for the Order in general, and that too is due to my hasty decisions and short-sightedness. Both Council and Order must be brought up a notch, beginning with a better Council . . . a better Order will occur.
H☿D needs to be bigger than its Hierophant . . . people joining and people looking in should be in awe of an esoteric organization that is operating as One Organism. The Herald of the Dawn can be envisioned as an esoteric university with the Cells being our specialized classes / fields of study and research. We must strive in this Order for philosophers and sorcerers not obedient followers.
What's going on?

Toward An Understanding of Mercurius Consciousness
by Ain Volk, kps 19 June 2015
Mercurius Consciousness takes place when an individual becomes consciously aware (Awakened) to separate one's god-self (Higher Self) from one's anima munda (Lower Self). This awakening takes time and varies from one individual to another. However, the Awakening itself, once gained, sustains the individual to make permanent change in how one views one's self and one's future interactions with others.
In Egyptian thought, one becomes Awakened to one's Higher Self through a destruction, transformation, and reconstruction (RL Sushko, Mercurius Conscious: Experiencing Self As God, 2015) as one moves from mere animistic thinking to a higher sense of being. Mercurius Consciousness occurs when one's conscious awareness moves for the Lower Self to the Higher Self in recognizing Apotheosis, that one is the only “god” over one's self.
Apophis, the serpent of primordial chaos, was also the embodiment of darkness and disorder. He was a destroyer and may be seen as the unrestrained predatory form of Seth. (Michael W. Ford, Necrominon, 2013, pages 211-212) His work is the control of (destruction of) dependence upon the mere primal instinct of the Lower Self. The representation of devouring Ra and his light, made room for the unconscious with its darkness and chaos to come forth within an individual.
Thus within an individual, transformation begins when a person moves from dependence upon any external, personal deific reality, to a realization that one is alone and must depend on herself/himself. This realization leads to understanding the higher sense of self where one is fully responsible for her or his own words and actions. The individual discovers there is no independent source of authority or locus of control apart from one's inner self. The individual is one's own god and answers to self alone. This transformation is huge for most individuals, especially those coming from a monotheistic system of religion.
Xeper and Khepri refer to the processes involved in individual change and transformation. Thus, the transformation is inside one's self awareness and this new understanding begins to change how one responds to all of life.
The Egyptians saw the Ib as the heart. The Ib contained the personality of the individual with all of her/his intellect and emotions. They further recognized that the Ba was made up of the qualities and powers of an individual. The Ib and Ba, in simplest terms, make up the conscious personality and one's sense of power of presence and being. Neither of these referred to a “soul.” The closest word for “soul” came from the word, Ka. The Ka was the essence of life within an individual. It cannot represent the Western idea of a soul for it is much more than that.
The Ka better represents the Higher Self or Daemon that has become aware of one's godhood. Thus, the Ib and Ba become assimilated within the Ka as one becomes more aware of who one is as a god. As one's Higher Self strengthens, the Ka becomes identified as the True Will of the individual. This leads to Maat where the reconstruction that is beginning will be carried out.
Maat could be recognized as an underlying current that connects all things in an intricately woven pattern. If one is to reach a balanced existence with harmony between the Ba and Ka, it is considered essential to live according to the principles of balance and justice so as not to disturb the very fabric of life. The ultimate goal is that order is to prevail. One moves into a harmony of mind and emotions to redirect one's will toward personal freedom and existence apart from external means of control such as religion or cult ritual. One is free to live apart from external documents such as a “Bible” or any written set of rules to find an inner directive that directs one how to live.
This journey of transformation takes us from the legendary “Underworld” (Unconscious Mind) to the bravery of Individuation (Carl Jung). Individuation leads to a more conscious understanding of what has been held within our unconscious mind. This new understanding may again be referred to as one's Daemon or Agathodaeman, that beginning of self awakening and reconstruction of the Higher Self.
For Jung, the Individuation Process was the slow dissolving of the boundaries or walls of the ego and the allowing of the chaotic material of the unconscious to pour out where it can be inspected and utilized by consciousness.
This pouring our process reminds me of childhood as I literally spent days and days playing with liquid mercury, as I referred to it then. I love how it was shiny, ethereal, took on various shapes as if it had a mind of its own, and made nickels shiny. It could be said that the Individuation Process is much like an alchemical mercury that allows the mind to see beyond the liquid, ever flowing boundary that separates the conscious from the unconscious. This liquid boundary does not exist in a solid form like liquid mercury, but rather relates to a fine boundary that may appear to separate the two. In the process of Awakening, the liquid boundary moves to allow that unseen and unknown to be revealed. Thus, Mercury is a metaphor for the mind in transition. This transition can be seen as its own alchemical change. Mercury Consciousness is when our own understanding becomes pure consciousness as it is destroyed from what we understood it to be t0 become transformed by the removal of its impurities so that it can be reconstructed into a pure awareness of who we are as god of our own selves (Apotheosis).
Lucifer is the archetype for Mercury. Lucifer represents the impure mercury of our own consciousness as we awaken to Mercurius Consciousness with our own pure consciousness. We experience the Higher Self by means of our Daemon, breaking the old self down by means of inner communication (self-talk, reflection, meditation, and evaluation) to see things as their own. We release what we know, and eliminate what was wrong in our understanding, to learn to become a more intelligent self.
Just as mercury tends to flow where it wishes, our new Mercurius Consciousness takes us into realms once forbidden, often new, and always challenging. We are self-directed and alive to learn and develop on our own, perhaps for the first time.
