Thoths from the Editor in Chief
by Etu Malku

Samhain 02 NLE saw the second annual celebration of our (H☿D) personal Patron of the Dawn, Custos Auroræ. Inside the Herald of the Dawn we were honored by several degree recognitions resulting from the extreme dedication and hard work by its Mystai . . . congratulations to them!

Hierophant S.Lynne Price challenged herself to paint thirty works in 30 days and did so . . . an amazing Majiqal ritual, from which a greater bond between her self and her Dæmon was forged enabling self to communicate that much clearer with Self.

Magus Ain Volk has unleashed his Egyptian terror in the form of a new Cell entitled ANKH KA (Mercuræn Heka) where students will develop personal Al Khemia using Egyptian archetypes to build personal Mercurius Consciousness.  The Individuation process will be identified and built upon for personal transformation and the furtherance of one's Ka . . . we look forward to this study!

Also on Samhain, the Greater Church of Lucifer opened the doors to the first physical church dedicated to Luciferianism in Texas. Being they are situated in a community surrounded by a vast network of RHP churches, they obviously drew much attention and protest from these churches and from beyond sparking controversy throughout religious communities as well as western left hand path communities.

Thanksgiving Rant
by Phillip Torrey I° NH☿D

Most people live their whole life accepting the lie of Thanksgiving. They go blindly into celebrating Thanksgiving without knowing the real truth. The truth is that Thanksgiving is not recognized as a Religious holiday. Thanksgiving is in fact a National holiday. Both the Catholic and Protestant Churches give mandatory services on this unholy day. It is a wonder to me why people do not ask themselves why? Ancient as well as Modern day Pagans do not recognize this day as a holy day either. Although traditions may vary, they celebrate their Thanksgiving at the time of the Autumnal Equinox, the name of this celebration is Mabon. A question I am asked all the time is, do Luciferians practice Thanksgiving? My answer is always "No!". Luciferians have no relation to Thanksgiving in any way whatsoever. However, I do explain that upon this unholy day loved ones do gather. In my personal opinion everyone should see the importance in this, no matter what tradition you do or do not follow.

Ishtar and Innana
by Brian Clifton Hinds IV° MH
☿D

Many of you know that I have been working with several Sumerian archetypes, I have been working hard developing a deeper relationship with those archetypes, I will do my best to share some of my discoveries.

Innana and Ishtar are the same goddess, however with some slight differences.
Innana to me is that young maiden that is calm, peaceful and the friend / lover that you can go to when things are getting tough. She is the spark that keeps all things alive and that same spark that can snuff out a fire in an instant.

In ancient times the people always came to her singing and honoring her through music, poetry, sex and some very strong beer. She is the symbol and power of self, the Daimon, embodying courage and strength to survive till the very end. She is compassionate and yet can be punishing to those that hurt others, especially the ones she loves.

Innana is very similar to the Hindu goddess Durga that after winning a few battles the king of demons tried to force her to be his wife and Durga laughed at this, he then tried to have his demons drag her to his kingdom by the hair to force this wedding, this is the exact moment that she created Kali through her rage that destroyed the rest of them, she refused to be dominated and controlled.

Ishtar is from the Akkadian times and Innana became more refined as Ishtar, the warrior goddess, the rage and violence on the battlefield. She is the queen of heaven and earth.

Nun
by Ain Volk IV° MH☿D

In ANKH KA, we turn first to look at the personified deity of Nun (pronounced Noon).  There are various creation myths within Egyptian mythology, yet they all begin with Nun.  Nun is the primordial water, a limitless expanse of motionless waters.  Thus, Nun means the Inert One.  This watery abyss in the ancient Egyptian religion was dark, directionless chaos.  Within this water were characteristics of water, invisibility, infinity, and darkness.  This water of chaos was Nun, oldest of all beings within the ancient Egyptian religion.  Beginning in the Middle Kingdom of Egyptian history, he would become known as the Father of the Gods.  As the oldest of all beings, he was considered as the most revered counselor of Egypt.

It must be understood that some consider Nun to merely be a passive source of raw materials that the creator god – Ra, Atum, Amun, or Ptah – would use to fashion the world.  Thus, we have many creation myths within the Egyptian religious system.  This explains why there is no solid pantheon among the deities, but many differing stories existed to make up the evolving deities of the religion.  As times changed, the stories were adapted to the understanding of the people.  They did not have to be unified or necessarily chronological.  There is more of a spiral affect to Egyptian mythology.  The characters change and evolve, thus it was a religion without mere absolutes, but rather accompanied the evolution of a people.

Nu meant the watery one while Nun meant the inert one.  Nun was pictured as a bearded man with a blue or green body symbolizing water and fertility.  Sometimes he is shown with female breasts.  Both female and male energies were said to be present within Nun.  He was represented by a sacred lake or as at Abydos, by an underground stream.  Temples built by sacred lakes symbolized chaotic waters thus honoring Nun, however there were no specific temples built for him.

Nun was also thought to be the subsoil waters beneath the ground that was a source of the annual floods of the Nile River.  This photo shows the flooding of the Nile River which leads to Khem, the rich black fertile soil of the surrounding areas.

In the 12th Hour of the Book of Gates, Nun is depicted with upraised arms holding a “solar barque”.

The barque, or boat, was occupied by eight deities, with the scarab deity, Hepri standing in the middle surrounded by seven other deities.
Prior to Osiris, Nun was equated with the underworld.  The underworld when associated with Nun was thought to be the formlessness through which even the righteous dead who passed the judgment had to travel before being reborn, the same route the sun god followed during the night.
Nun had no formal cult, however the frequent ritual element of passing something through water in order to cleanse it involved at least a tacit recognition of Nun's presence within the rite.
Some view Nun as a passive force as compared to an active force, nevertheless, the archetype of Nun is still significant.  Even a passive force still remains a force.

Nun was a part of a group of pseudo-deities known as the Ogdoad.  They essentially acted as intermediaries between the waters of chaos and the first true gods.  (This in no was diminishes Nun's place in the ancient creation myth.)  The male figures listed above were associated as being frog gods while their female counterparts were considered to be snake goddesses.

  • Nun and Naunet were associated with water as god of the waters and the father of the gods.
  • Heh and Hauhet were associated with endlessness and the infinity of space.
  • Kuk and Kauket were associated with darkness and the emptiness.
  • Amun and Amaunet were associated with invisibility, being hidden, and darkness.

Naunet was the female aspect of Nun.  The name, Nu, is seen as having a female gender ending.  Naunet was the feminine to Nun's masculine, yet more of a representation of duality than as an actual goddess, so she was less of a deity than Nun, and actually more of an abstract.  It seems that duality took away from Nun simply having female and male energies within himself.  But, duality is a common understanding within the Egyptian religion.  This understanding would later make its way into Judaism and Christianity.
"The body as a whole, so it seems to me, is a pattern of behavior, and man as a whole is an archetype." ~ Carl Jung; Letter to Medard Boss June 27, 1947

It is important to see how each passing generation identifies archetypes.  The above photo shows how current day archetypes are being envisioned.  This picture shows a three-dimensional pattern of light that will have meaning as interpreted by the observer.  While this is an amazing concept, let us simply turn to Carl Jung's simple statement that man as a whole is an archetype!

Jung saw Nun as an archetype of Mercurius  Consciousness.    Referring to the spiritual alchemy (al-Khemia) of Mercury Consciousness, Jung stated the following.

“It is synonymous with the Green Lion of the Alchemists, also called the 'aqua permanens' or spiritual waters, the Egyptian Nun.  The essence of man and woman. The Mercurius Menstrualis, the division from Unity to Duality.  Mercurius becomes our primordial unconsciousness, a personification of the Collective Unconsciousness.”
-Carl Jung

It is for these reasons - Egyptian mythology began with Nun and Carl Jung's statements - that in ANKH KA we begin with an understanding and experience of the Collective Unconsciousness which includes Nun.

An Interview with Hierophant Cort Williams
by Phillip Torrey I° NH☿D

Hierophant Cort Williams is a Qlippothic Adept. In the past he has been the head of two Yahoo study groups called Sinister Arcana and Ebon Spire, and now Hierophant Williams is the head of the Herald of the Dawns 777 Cell. I would like to say it was a pleasure to speak with him and was glad he agreed to do it. We spoke about the Qlippoth, The Tree of Life as well as the Herald of the Dawn's 777 Cell. I hope you all enjoy.

Hierophant Williams, Can you please tell me, what the Qlippoth is?

Cort Williams
The Qlippoth are the sinister reflection of the Sephiroth. The 10 Sephiroth are emanations of YHVH and together with the 22 pathways that connect them comprise the Tree of Life. The 10 Qliphoth, and the 22 Qliphothic tunnels, comprise the Tree of Death, a sinister counter-emanation which seek to undermine the structures of the created cosmos.

Thank you, Hierophant Williams, Can you please tell me, what the Tree of Life is?

Cort Williams
The Tree of Life is composed of 10 Sephiroth and the 22 paths which connect them. Each of the 22 paths correspond to a Hebrew letter and to a Tarot trump. In the paradigm I work with, the Tree of Life is seen as part of the apparatus by which the biblical god YHVH exerts control over the created cosmos, a process which the Black Adept seeks to subvert.

Does the Qlippoth, and the Tree of Life have any similarities?

Cort Williams
Yes, the Qliphothic tree of Death is the sinister reflection of the Tree of Life and possesses a similar structure to it.. The Qliphothic forces seek to undermine and subvert the structures of the Tree of Life, a process the Black Adept utilizes in the course of his/her adversarial self-becoming.

What are the differences of the Qlippoth and the Tree of Life?

Cort Williams
What the Tree of Life seeks to control, the Tree of Death seeks to liberate. What the Tree of Life seeks to maintain, the Tree of Death seeks to undermine. What the Tree of Life seeks to build, the Tree of Death seeks to destroy.

There are 4 Worlds of the Tree of Life, and there are 4 Oceans/Seas of the Qlippoth. Could you also explain what they are? Are there similarities? Are there differences?

Cort Williams
The 4 worlds in Kabbalah refer to different levels on which the Sephiroth(and the Qliphoth) enact their cosmic and anti-cosmic processes respectively:
Atziluth: The World of Emanation(spiritual), Briah: The World of Creation(mental), Yetzirah: The World of Formation(astral), Assiah: The Material World(physical)

The Qliphoth and the four worlds in terms of the process of the emanation of the Sitra Ahra:

  • Atziluth: The Black Light of the Or She-Ein Bo Mashavah flows into the 3 supernal Qliphoth. Its spiritual fire provide the archetypal principles which form the basis for the emergence of the Sitra Ahra: The Dual Contending Forces, the Dark Sovereign, and the Black Goddess. In this stage of emanation the light remains in an exalted and undifferentiated state.

  • In Briah, the Black Light begins to differentiate itself into polar dyads: Expansion and contraction, unbalanced mercy and unbalanced severity, Gasheklah and Golachab respectively. These contrasting poles generate a vortex of chaotic energy which resolves into the fine-tuned dialectic tension of Thagiriron, the disputers. The energies harnessed by this triad fuel the manifestation of the Sitra Ahra.

  • In Yetzirah, the Black Light expresses itself in terms of the dual forces of passion(A'arab Zaraq) and intellect(Samael), weaving an oneiric tapestry(Gamaliel) which serves as the blueprint for the Sitra Ahra's manifestation on the material realm.
  • In Assiah, the Black Light brings forth Nahemoth, the Black Earth, which serves as a sort of lightning-rod which grounds the adversarial spiritual current of the Tree of Death, drawing down the forces of liberative destruction which return the created cosmos to an unmanifest state

Can a person work with the 4 Oceans/Seas? And if so what could a person learn or gain by doing so?
Cort Williams
Hmm...while I've heard of the 4 oceans/seas in relation to the Qliphoth, I don't utilize them much in my paradigm. I rather see the 4 worlds as 4 different categories of experience in which the Qliphoth and Sephiroth both operate on.

Would you say that the Qlippoth is a part of yourself? And if so does that mean each person has his or her own personal Qlippoth, as well as their own personal Tree of Life?

Cort Williams
I see myself as possessing a spark of the adversarial essence of the Qliphoth, and that this is also known as the Black Flame. It is this adversarial essence which provides a link to the Qliphothic forces.

This is just a brief outline of my approach to working with the Qliphoth. As there are 10 Sephiroth in Qabalah, there are 10 Qliphoth. They are the dark reflections of the sephiroth, and they are each ruled by an archdaemon:

Nahemoth, ruled by the archdaemon Naamah Gamaliel, ruled by the archdaemon Lilith Samael, ruled by the archdaemon Adramalech A'arab Zaraq, ruled by the archdaemon Ba'al Thagiriron, ruled by the archdaemon Belphegor Golachab, ruled by the archdaemon Asmodeus Agshekoloh, ruled by the archdaemon Ashtaroth Satariel, ruled by the archdaemon Lucifuge Ghagiel, ruled by the archdaemon Beelzebub Thaumiel, ruled by the archdaemons Satan and Moloch.

I work with the Qliphothic spheres in a similar manner as to which a RHP Kabbalist might approach the Tree of Life: Ascending the Tree of Death sphere-by-sphere. To begin work with the forces, I might start with a ritual announcing my intention to work with the Qliphothic Spheres declaring my kinship with the forces of the Sitra Ahra (other side). I work with the Qliphothic forces as part of a paradigm in which I see myself as the inheritor of the Black Flame, a portion of the dark divine essence of the adversarial powers who do battle with the gods of the cosmic order. Mastering the Qliphothic spheres is a means of awakening and strengthening my own daimonic essence and transcending the limitations of the cosmic order as part of the dynamic process of Satanic self-becoming proceeding towards the horizon of self-deification.

I begin with Nahemoth, the sinister reflection of Malkuth. Nahemoth, like Malkuth, is linked to the powers of the earth-Especially the Earth in Her more sinister and chthonic aspects. Nahemoth is ruled by the Archdaemon Naamah(the consort of Azazel and sister of Tubal-Qayin), so work with this sphere can be approached by ritually invoking the essence of Naamah. Astral path workings to gain a greater intuitive understanding of the sphere are another means of contacting the essence of Nahemoth. The goat and pig are especially sacred to Naamah as animals especially connected with chthonic powers, and outdoor workings are especially appropriate for work with this sphere.

The next sphere is Gamaliel, the sinister reflection of Yesod. Gamaliel comprises some of the more sinister regions of the astral plane, especially those which are linked to the sexual subconscious of humanity. Gamaliel is the gateway to the astral landscapes where the Black Adept can make contact with astral larvae and familiars. Gamaliel is ruled by the Archdaemon Lilith, the bride of Samael and the first wife of Adam. Lilith is desire unrestrained, mistress of the dark aspects of the sexual power of the divine feminine. Snakes, black cats, and spiders are all sacred to Lilith(Lilith being connected to the serpent-woman of myth, such as the Lamia). Lilith is queen of the succubi, the forces which drain the sexual energy of men and use it to birth daimonic children which serve the Satanic powers of the Sitra Ahra. She is the chalice which contains the poisonous elixir of Gnosis(the essence of which is her husband, Samael, the "poison of god"-meaning, in my favored interpretation, the poison which will kill the false god of the cosmic order)

And so on, proceeding with the spheres Samael, A'arab Zaraq, Thagirion, Golachab, Agshekoloh, Satariel, Ghagiel, and lastly the mighty Qliphah of Thaumiel.

Hierophant Williams, In your opinion what kind of mindset should one have if they want to begin working with the Qlippoth?

Cort Williams
One in which one is committed to strengthening the adversarial essence within. A mindset where one is prepared to work respectfully with dark powers in the name of furthering his/her own daimonic evolution.

What should one expect with their first Qlippoth experience?

Cort Williams
Hard to say really-Like all magico-religious work, the experiences are highly subjective in nature and vary widely from individual to individual.

Can the Qlippoth be abused?

Cort Williams
Sure-Many magicians in the past would treat the Qliphoth (and other infernal powers) disrespectfully, attempting to control and bully them by threatening them with Judeo-Christian god names. This is not only unwise, it's just plain rude.

I agree, Hierophant Williams, Can you please describe the 777 cell? What expectations do you have of the members in the 777 cell?

Cort Williams
The 777 Cell is a place where members of the Herald of the Dawn meet for two purposes: 1. To study and discuss the Qliphoth generally. 2. To perform path workings with the 22 Tunnels of Set specifically. This is an extended project which has been going on for over 2 1/2 years.

Thank you, and Finally, What advice would you give to someone if they knew nothing about the Qlippoth but had a passion for working with the Qlippoth?

Cort Williams
The Qliphoth is a complex topic. Be ready to hit the books! After one has acquired a basic understanding of Kabbalah as a whole, look for books written by authors and/or orders which work specifically with the Qliphoth (Thomas Karlsson, Michael Ford, Temple of the Black Light, Typhonian OTO).

Thank you, for doing this interview Hierophant Williams. It was a pleasure!

Cort Williams
Thank you Phillip!
